Arsenal tried to sign sensation during summer

Hazard was definitely targeted by Arsenal during the summer according to the player's agentThe agent of long term Arsenal target Eden Hazard, John Bico, has admitted that the North London club did try to sign the Belgian sensation last summer.

The winger, whom many claim to be one of Europe’s hottest property’s has been on the Arsenal wishlist for some time with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger having the player monitored for some time. Bico claims that because Arsenal had already purchased Gervinho in the early part of the summer, Hazard’s side Lille were therefore not in a position to sell another wide player at the time.

Whilst Arsenal have kept a close eye on Hazard for some time, La Liga giants Real Mardid are also now keeping tabs on the player with the 20 year olds agent confirming that the Spanish side have been watching.

“Arsene Wenger wanted Hazard, but Lille said no to the sale last summer. Real Madrid have been watching too.”

Whilst it is currently unclear whether Hazard would prefer a move to Spain rather than England, it is apparent that he would like to play in a team involved in the Champions League making Arsenal’s campaign this season even more important given the poor start.

Should Arsenal fail to make at least the top four this season, and fail to progress onto the Group stages of the Champions League, it would seem much more likely that the highly coveted youngster would move to Jose Mourinho’s side rather than Arsene Wenger’s.

However, should Arsenal get to grips with their season and begin a much more steady assault on the top four positions it is believed that Wenger, and his approach to the youngster could hold the Emirates side in a more favourable position.
