Arsenal up the ante in chase for La Liga starlet

Reports are suggesting that Arsenal will be increasing their interest in Valencia strike sensation, Paco Alcacer, in time for a possible January transfer.

The youngster made headlines in August of this year when he scored the third in a 3-0 friendly victory over AS Roma, before his father succumbed to a heart-attack whilst leaving the stadium.

It’s also believed that Valencia have already turned down a £3m approach from La Liga rivals, Barcelona, regarding a move for the teenager but the interest won’t stop there.

Arsenal have been lacking in the striking department so far this season, with Robin van Persie leading like a true captain in the scoring department and Gervinho helping out as he adapts to the pace of the Premier League.

An interesting fact in Alcacer’s case is that some Spanish agents believe a clause exists in his contract explaining that if the youth does not feature for the first team before next season, he is available to leave on a free transfer.

The forward shouldn’t cost more than £8m due to there being only 24 months left to run on his current deal at the Mestalla, and his age makes him a prime target for Arsene Wenger.

Alcacer has moved rapidly through the Spanish international squads and despite playing for the U16 side in 2009, is now featuring superbly for the U19 squad and has scored four goals in seven games.

With Barcelona breathing down his neck, Arsenal will make it their business to snap up this prodigy as quickly as possible before he follows the way of former Gunners captain, Cesc Fabregas, by joing the football giants.
