Arsenal v Southampton Odds : Gunners look to get back to winning ways with a victory against surprise Saints package

Arsenal are considered 8/13 favourites by Paddy Power to defeat a Southampton side who are only a couple of points behind the league leaders nearly a quarter of the way into the season.

After suffering a narrow defeat to traditional rivals Manchester Untied last time out in the league, Arsenal will be keen to get momentum going as soon as possible with a win against an impressive Southampton side.

The Saints are enjoying their best start to the season for years as they sit 2 points clear at the top of the table ahead of second placed Liverpool at the end of the international break.

The good news for Arsene Wenger is that a couple of his top players have recovered from knocks sustained during the international break with Wojcech Szczesny and Aaron Ramsey available for the clash at The Emirates.

However, there is one notable casualty as Jack Wilshere is likely to be a major doubt for the game with reports surfacing that he picked up an ankle injury during England’s 1-0 defeat to Germany on Tuesday night.

If Wilshere does miss the game against Southampton, it could open up a possible return for Mathieu Flamini to the starting lineup with the Frenchman fully recovered from the injuries that hindered him before the international break.

Much to many people’s surprise, Southampton could end the weekend as league leaders if Mauricio Pocchetino’s side are able to continue to upset the odds and defeat Arsenal in London.

The good news for The Saints is that their trio of England internationals have emerged unscathed from their Three Lions debuts meaning that Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez are almost certain to spearhead the Southampton attack for the short trip north.

However, Gaston Ramirez could be a player that might get left out of the starting squad with rumours gaining momentum that the Uruguayan playmaker could make a return to Serie A during the January transfer window.

If Southampton are to have any chance of winning on Saturday, they will need to rely on their strong defensive nature having only conceded 5 times all season so far.

However, Arsenal have been the best attacking side in the Premier League so far scoring 22 goals so far this season which is setting the stage for a very close fight between two in-form teams that could go either way on Saturday afternoon.
