Arsenal will turn sights to experienced keeper after losing out on Stekelenburg

Published

on

Arsenal are to re-open interest in Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given after it emerged Roma were close to tying up a deal for Ajax number one Maarten Stekelenburg.

Whilst it will be a blow to Wenger on losing out on the Holland international, the side still believe they need experience between the goal posts and with Given definitely available this summer, it would seem and obvious choice. The age of goalkeepers these days is not considered old unless they are in their forties and with Given only just having turned 35, it would appear he still has some very good years ahead of him.

The former Newcastle United stopper spent most of last season on the bench but he will want to feature as a first team choice for the next campaign regardless of which he team he chooses. Arsenal will have a battle on his hands though, with Aston Villa’s Alex McLeish very keen on the Irishman after after having sold Brad Friedel to Tottenham.

I think Arsenal should sign this guy. I like him and I have been following him. Though he is short but he is a good keeper…

to me i believe arsenal has enough goal keepers the likes of fabiansiki it should however impack on defenders and strikers and replace the cantract rebel samri nasri and captain inseady of buying players that would not bring in silverwares.

A good keeper but although he may only be 35 now, by the time Arsene gets around to signing him he will probably be over 40.

Arsene Wenger has been too sluggish in the transfer market since it opened. A lot of players have been linked to the Emirates, but none signed yet apart from Jacobson. Given is a good keeper and can fit well into our team. He should sign now instead of being another link to Arsenal that may never materialise.

as much as we would like arsene to sign him, deep down in our hearts, we are all resigned to the fact that wenger wont sign him..

As a lifelong Arsenal supporter I cannot understand Wengers logic??.Shay Given should have been signed long before City bought him .Consider all the points lost by awful blunders made by the likes of Almunia / Lehman /Fabianski /Mannone /and Woj?
even though he is still an apprentice and may well get better.
Would George Graham have been allowed to go 6 years without a trophy ????? “No chance” I was at St James park when we gave away a 4 goal lead .Sorry Arsene your time is up ,we need to build from defence out .Sad to see that the English language is almost extinct on here.

wenger is time for you too go. we pay money too watch this team we were suppose to sign already two diffenders and a striker and sell: all our goolkeepers expt woj, bentner, rosicky, denilson, diaby, squillani and instead you go sign a 19year old defender, you are mad.we are waiting for new signings and nothing yet.Does arsenal have money or not we are getting irritated now with speculations, we really need wenger to go.
jesus take out the dam money and buy an experience goolkeeper, two defenders, move vermeulen to left back like he was playing at ajax, by a left footed winger, sell cecs and let nasri and wilshere fight for the atacking mdfield role, move v.persie just behind and main striker and place walcot there. but gervihno and let him play on the right wing, you stupid

am a die arsenal fan fro USA.Lemmi tell u wenger, we are tired of your silly games, you are playing with the fans mind.arsenal is going for preseason tour with no signings at all!!! look Man U, they hv already bought 3 proven players, what hv u done?…sign a 19yr boy?…..a re you out of ua minds?…the only thing you telling us is that you will get busy at the end of july….thats stupid, thats a joke,…wenger you are not worthy to be an arsenal coach, you need to go……arsenal must buy, 2 defenders(cahill and samba), striker(Gervinho) Goalkeeper(Given) and a midfielder(Alvarez), sell Fabregas and retain Nasri in Fab’s midfield position(the one he likes most)……wenger, you must wake up and sign players or pack your staff and go.

Professor Wenger, if your song is not melodious, for God sake, can’t you hear it yourself? I wouldn’t blame all these established stars trooping out of Emirates, because nobody wants to be part of a ship racing toward destruction. Over years now Ansene, you like building a very enviable mansion and yet went ahead to demolish it yourself. You need to heed the voices of wisdom because nobody has monopoly of wisdom. The money is there to acquire needed players to return ARSENAL to its enviable position in the soccer world yet you are just being unnecessarily heady and clumsy. WHY?
All your promised Gevinho, Carhill, Samba and Alvares of this world, where are they? Please, give us a break and stop breaking people’s hearts

I am wondering if wenger will ever learn how to deal with the transfer Market. every year he waits till the end of the transfer window to sign the remains and the scrap> Does he expect the target players wait for hi dragging his feet . Wenger should leave arsenal to a more credible Manager . a man with vision and courage> Wenger did his best to keep his job all this time by pleasing the greedy members of the board but now the Arsenal fans have woken up .

A new goalkeeper is not a bad idea. I would prefer to see some attacking midfielders though Don’t leave it until the last minute for god’s sake.
