Arsenal’s chief scout asks fans to understand economic limitations

Grimandi believes Arsenal can ruin other's Premiership chances this season rather than winning it themselvesFormer Arsenal defender and current chief scout for the Emirates side Gilles Grimandi has told fans of the club that they nned to grasp the economic limitations on the club and adds that there are no proven star players in the current market.

The Arsenal employee also feels that the side have too many “small-sized” players to be able to threaten for the Premiership title this season adding that the side could act as a spoiler side for those trying to win the title but not aiming to win the competition themselves.

“We are convinced we have a good team, which can play a spoilsport role in the league this season. We have some quality and have to believe in our work. We were left with little time to act in the transfer window and we opted to pad out our squad in terms of numbers.”

The 41 year old added:

“We have so many injuries because we keep hold of the ball more than other teams and this exposes the team to more knocks from opponents. It is also because we have a lot of small-sized players, and the fact we take part in so many competitions increases risk of injury.”

With regards to certain signings the Frenchman admitted that Arsenal could not compete with Chelsea or Manchester City in the transfer market.

“There are no proven big stars currently on the market, besides we are not competing on a level playing field with Manchester City and Chelsea. Our means are limited by comparison and our pay structure prevents us going crazy when we sign players.”

The former Arsenal defender added:

“The fans want us to bring in star names, but they don’t all grasp our economic limitations.”
