Aston Villa eyeing Premier League stalwart as defensive reinforcement

Depending on several permitting circumstances, Aston Villa could make a summer swoop to sign Blackburn defender Scott Dann in the summer.

The centre-back was being linked with a move away from Ewood Park in January, despite only arriving at the club in August, but ultimately remained at Blackburn Rovers.

Speculation suggested that the stopper has a clause in his contract that would have allowed him to move away from the Lancashire side if Christopher Samba were to exit.

The Congolese international was heavily associated with moves to Tottenham, Arsenal and Stoke City over the winter period but a move failed to materialise.

Reports have told that there is something not quite right with the player’s situation with Keith Andrews claiming that the 27 year-old will not play in a Rovers shirt again after the Irishman completed a free transfer to West Brom.

As a result, Samba is likely to move away in the summer and Dann could follow suit if he feels the side isn’t strengthened accordingly.

Villa defenders Richard Dunne and James Collins have been linked with exits from Villa Park and Alex McCleish appears to be lining up Dann as a potential replacement.

The 24 year-old has made 14 starts for Rovers this season and would command an asking price of around £6m.

The completion of the transfer could ultimately depend on Rovers’ success this campaign, and with the club currently embroiled in a relegation battle, things are admittedly not looking hopeful.
