Aston Villa have confirmed that defensive midfielder Jean Makoun has joined Greek giants Olympiakos on a season long loan, subject to approval from FIFA.
The Cameroon international joined Villa in January from Lyon but has found chances in the starting line-up very hard to come by and has become surplus to requirement’s since the arrival of Alex McLeish.
Makoun is contracted at Villa Park until 2014 although it looks unlikely that the player will see out the contract as Olympiakos have the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season if they wish.
The 28-year-old is yet to make an appearance for the club this season and only played in seven games in the last campaign. Makoun did announce that he was prepared to stay at Villa and fight for a place in the starting line-up.
The loan deal is expected to be approved by FIFA tomorrow and will allow Makoun to play for Olympiakos in the Champions League games against Arsenal, Marseilles and Borussia Dortmund in the Group F fixtures.
