It is understood that Aston Villa have made an enquiry for Tottenham midfielder Jermain Jenas.
Villa were reportedly lining up a deal for Liverpool’s Joe Cole however they missed out on a last ditch attempt, as he opted to join French side Lille, whom he has agreed a season-long loan deal with.
Following this, Alex McLeish looks set to turn his attention to 28-year-old Jenas, who has fallen down the pecking order at White Hart Lane.
The England international has not featured for Spurs this season and it looks unlikely he would see regular first-team action following the arrival of Scott Park from West Ham.
Boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed that he would be prepared to sell fringe players to make room for new signings. Villa are hoping for Jenas to join before the end of the transfer window, with a loan deal the possible outcome.
Should Jenas join, this would be McLeish’s third summer signing following the arrivals of winger Charles N’Zogbia from Wigan and goalkeeper Shay Given from Manchester City.
