Aston Villa have reportedly agreed a £9.5m fee with Wigan for long term target Charles N’Zogbia. Villa had already made a bid of £9m earlier this month but the Latics rejected it in the hope of getting £10m for their star winger.
It is understood now however that the two clubs made a compromise over the weekend in a move that will also benefit Wigan as they will get a healthy sum for N’Zogbia rather than have him leave next summer for nothing.
Villa will have to wait for Wigan’s club owner Dave Whelan to authorise the deal before signing a player who will fill in a void left behind by wingers Ashley Young and Steward Downing who have both left Villa Park this summer.
New Villa boss Alex McLeish is a big fan of the 25 year old Frenchman and unsuccessfully tried to sign him when in charge at Birmingham City. This time however it looks like McLeish will get his man and, subject to a medical and talks over personal terms, will have him at the club for a long time.
