Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is ready to offer Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson an escape route by offering the Old Trafford club £3.5m in January.
Gibson is now 24 years old and is yet to make his way as a permanent fixture in the Manchester United side with many critics claiming he simply isn’t good enough to play for the Red Devils but McLeish obviously feels the Republic of Ireland midfielder would have something to offer his young Villa midfield.
Manchester United’s injury list is not looking good though and the club may feel it would be too risky to allow Gibson to leave half way through a campaign. Despite Sir Alex Ferguson’s reluctance to play some of his other youngsters they could choose to keep hold of Gibson and reassess the situation during the summer.
Aston Villa though want his experience added in January and will make an offer during the window to test the water with the club privately hoping that they may be tempted by the offer as Ferguson looks to regroup his midfield as they chase the Premiership title.
