Aston Villa youngster set for bumper new deal

Barry Bannan looks to be in line for a further contract extensionSources close to FB have revealed that young Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan could be set for a fresh new deal, only a year after signing his most recent extension to keep him at Villa Park until 2014.

The new deal is believed to tie the 21 year old to the midlands club until 2016 however there was no mention regarding salary details.

the new offer is believed to be a deterrent to ward off the likes of numerous Premiership clubs that have made their interest known and Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is believed to be wanting to tie up a new deal as soon as possible to avoid losing out on the Scotland international next summer.

McLeish’s first in charge of the club saw the side lose both Stuart Downing and Ashley Young to Liverpool and Manchester United respectively and it is believed the new boss wishes to lay down a marker to show other sides that they are no longer a selling club and wish to build towards the future.

Whilst no extension on a contract can ultimately put teams off with enough clout, it is a sign that McLeish and the Aston Villa board wish to keep their up and coming talents at the club and the new deal is likely to cool any possible interest certain teams may have.
