Barcelona entertain Levante at the Nou Camp, whereas Real Madrid are at home to Real Betis and both sides are looking to take all three points from their opening encounters.
Looking at Barca to begin with, they are trying to defend their La Liga title of course and will be doing that under the management of Gerardo Daniel Martino after Tito Vilanova was forced to step down from his role after a long battle with illness.
It’s a great shame not to see Vilanova on the sidelines, but the team will be doing all they can to win the title for their former manager.
Lionel Messi is going to be the key man on Sunday once again and it is going to be interesting to see just how he links up with the new signing – Neymar. These two could cause defences so many problems and the Levante back four are going to have to be at their very best to keep them quiet.
When looking at the odds, it is no surprise to see that Barcelona are the big favourites to take the spoils as they are being offered at 1/11 to come out on top.
You can get odds of 30/1 on a Levante win and the visitors will be looking to build on an eleven place finish last time out.
It should be an interesting encounter and you can be sure Barca will be looking to get off to a flying start.
Real Madrid are in action after Barca and if the latter do win their encounter, there could be a little bit of pressure on Carlo Ancelotti’s new side.
Ancelotti has been trying to secure the services of Gareth Bale for the majority of the summer and although he hasn’t managed to sign the Welshman just yet, there should be enough quality in the squad for the win.
Real didn’t really mount a title challenge last season and they will want to change that this time out. A bet on the hosts gives you odds of 1/6.
Real Betis finished in seventh place in 2012/13 and were just a point away from securing European football. They will be after a Europa League spot and know a good start is vital.
There are two other matches taking place on Sunday as Osasuna and Granada lock horns. For this one, there could be some value on the draw at 12/5.
Finally, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid go head-to-head in what could prove to be the game of the day. The aim for both sides is to finish in the top four and after their third place last time out, Atletico are the favourites at 13/8.
As for Sevilla, there were in ninth last season and have lost a number of key players during the summer. However, on home soil, they might be a good bet at 9/5.
It should be a cracking couple of hours in La Liga on Sunday.
