Barcelona will be “scouting” Arsenal’s Van Persie during Champions League clash

Robin van Persie will be under many eyes in tonight's Champions League clashReports have come in from our source in Barcelona that their scouts will use the Champions League clash between the Spanish giants and Arsenal as a “scouting” opportunity for the Gunner’s striker Robin van Persie.

The two teams are due to meet at the Emirates on Wednesday evening in what is set to be an enthralling encounter, not only are the teams relatively similar in style where passing and movement is concerned but the added juice also comes via numerous Barcelona players forcing the famous Nou Camp strip onto Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas after their World Cup win in 2010.

With rumours and speculation practically being written everyday regarding the Arsenal captain, it is surprising that Barcelona now see Robin van Persie as a possible summer transfer target.

“It would be unwise not to use the game to be scouting Robin, he is a player Barca like a lot. For us he is a player who would sit well in the team but we must not forget he plays maybe half a season because of injury”.

Our source continued.

“We like him but we also like Cesc but this has been going on for a long time now, we shall see how Robin plays on Wednesday night”.

It is true that RVP has been injured very much every season and as our source points out, the long drawn out affair regarding Cesc Fabregas has been going on too long, so long in fact that even Real Madrid admitted an interest earlier this week.

Let us not forget that Barcelona’s director of football, Raul Sanllehi, also classed any possible deal for the Arsenal captain as “dead”.

Be that as it may, there were murmurings in 2009 that Barcelona also showed a big interest in the Dutch international which led to Arsenal sealing a new long term deal quite promptly.

Regardless of interest in van Persie, he remains an Arsenal player and there is absolutely no question of his goal scoring talents when fit, however as pointed out, if due to injury every season he can only play half a season then perhaps Arsene Wenger will be wanting someone more durable to lead the Arsenal attack in the future.

For the benefit of Arsenal and the English Premier league, many will be hoping that van Persie and Fabregas stay for a good deal longer yet and the destruction of Barcelona’s defence tonight will be a great stepping stone for both players.
