Newcastle renegade, Joey Barton, has claimed that he was encouraged by Fabio Capello’s comments concerning why the midfielder was not picked for the England squad to face Holland in Wednesday’s friendly.
The 28 year-old has one England cap to his name but has never been selected by the Italian. Capello commented: “Sometimes you could end up playing 10 v 11. He might get sent off.”
Barton unsurprisingly used Twitter to voice his opinion on the matter, saying: “On the plus side at least Capello knows who I am. I was beginning to think I was invisible.”
The former Manchester City hardman added: “My goal is to get in that Euro 2012 squad and the team for the Olympics. All I can do is more of what I did last season. If it’s enough, it’s enough. I’m going to take the fact he (Capello) used the words ‘Barton’ and ‘good player’ in the same sentence.”
