Greyhound Racing takes centre stage on Wednesday evening as the Eclipse final is being broadcast live on Sky Sports from Nottingham as we bring you the latest odds from Bet365.
Regarded as only second to the Derby in terms of major prizes within the sport for middle-distance dogs, the race always seems to produce fascinating racing and there is a stunning line-up for this year’s final.
As with all major greyhound meetings on Sky Sports, the betting interest in the race will be booming as we take a look at where your money should be going for the showpiece final and the seven other televised races.
Betfred Eclipse Greyhounds : Bet365 Free Bet Offer
Its a cracking Wednesday card at Nottingham with the Betfred Eclipse, as Bet365 celebrate with the announcement of a new free bets offer worth £200/€200 to all customers to spend on any race from a full card at Wimbledon! Claim here!
The feature race, the Eclipse, is an intriguing contest involving six dogs that all stand a chance of making a play for the money.
Quite staggeringly, four of the dogs are trained by the same man – the legend that is Charlie Lister, who was made an OBE earlier in the year for his services to the sport. Having two dogs in a major final is a regular occurrence for the top trainers, but having three is pretty unheard of.
So, for Lister to have trained four dogs to reach a Category One final is quite remarkable. One of his foursome should pick up the money, and the market support at this stage is for the 2011 Derby champion Taylors Sky, who is a best-priced 9/4 with Bet365.
He, on paper, is the Lister first string but he isn’t getting any younger, and it goes without saying that he isn’t running at the same level as when he landed that memorable Derby success last year.
That said, the son of Westmead Hawk has done nothing wrong in this competition and has won both his heats on way to the final. Taylors Sky rightly heads the betting but he looks a weak favourite due to his inconsistent nature out of the traps. A better option probably lies in backing another of Lister’s old-timers in the race, Boher Paddy, who looks a corker of a bet around the 5/1 mark with Bet365.
How this hound hasn’t won a Category One event is a bit of a mystery. He was held in much higher regard by the kennel than Taylors Sky for that year’s Derby and was ante-post favourite at the time he was knocked out in the early stages. Subsequently Boher Paddy has failed to fire at the top-level but he has that touch of class that make him a huge player in a major final like this.
He has got a good draw in trap two, outside the slow starting Westmead Bertie, and if he leads at the first bend, nothing will be picking him up. He should be favourite in our book and looks the one to be on for the 21:45 showpiece.
Bet365 have price up the event very fairly in terms of value and they are the recommended bookmaker to use for any Sky Sports covered greyhound racing.
Back any single winner at 2/1 or more on any live televised race and you can have a free bet to the same stake on the next televised race. The offer is a valuable tool for punters to take advantage of.
For example, if you are looking to take advantage of the offer, your free bet would work out like this: If you place a £50 bet on a dog at 3/1 (greater than 2/1) on the 21:25, and it wins, Bet365 will give you a free £50 bet on the next televised race, which in this case would be the Eclipse final run at 21:45 – and our advice would be with Boher Paddy.
Your free bet can be placed at any odds, but it is worth keeping in mind that if you back another dog at 2/1 or greater and that one wins as well, you will qualify for another free bet (stake not returned) in the next race
