Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers to go head to head for Swedish giant

Avdic will give either Blackburn or Birmingham attacking optionsBoth Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers are looking to take advantage of Werder Bremen’s possible relegation by fighting it out for the Bundesliga striker Denni Avdić.

The 22 year old forward, who has the height comparable to some of England’s rugby second rowers at 6ft 4in has not had the best of seasons for Werder, picking up only two appearances despite scoring 26 goals for his previous club IF Elfsborg.

The Swedish international was the subject of transfer speculation last year when Blackburn were looking to make a bid but with Bremen’s season getting worse, Birmingham have also seen an opportunity to snatch the youngster up. The Bundesliga team have now leaked an incredible 50 goals in 24 matches and you don’t have to be Einstein to work out that is more than two per game. Lying perilously close to relegation in 15th one can almost hear the vulchers waiting for that imminent drop to the German second division and of course, a drop in price for some of their stars.

Whilst Denni Avdić might not be the striker managers dream of he does add height to an attack and with the ability to play a midfield role too, could be of some use to both clubs. Whilst Avdić only joined in January of this year, he has only made two appearances and he has admitted to wanting to play in England in the past.

Whether both Premiership clubs are interested enough to begin some form of bidding war will remain to be seen but one senses that Avdić is likely to be playing Premiership football instead of Bundesliga bench warming next season.
