Reports fresh from Lancashire are claiming that Blackburn Rovers are to start the summer transfer window off by bidding for two Premierships stars of English nationality.
Rumours are rife that Blackburn will look to acquire the services of Tottenham Hotspur’s Jermain Defoe and Manchester City’s Joleon Lescott in a move that suggests Venky’s – The Indian Poultry company – are to make their Premiership intentions clear.
Tottenham’s Defoe has not had the best of seasons playing only 16 times in the Premiership and scoring just two goals and Redknapp’s quest for new firepower over the summer could spell the end for the England striker’s spell at White Hart Lane.
Manchester City’s Joleon Lescott on the other hand has played just as many Premiership games and scored one less than that of his England team mate but the 28 year old defender has become frustrated playing second fiddle in Roberto Mancini’s line up and any promise of regular football is sure to lure him away from the Eastlands club.
Venky’s will find that they will not be able to purchase either too cheaply, with Lescott costing City £22m in 2009 in particular they are likely to have to find at least that to purchase both England internationals.
