The long protracted departure of Chelsea defender Alex looks to be coming to its inevitable close after the player reportedly agreed personal terms with Ligue 1 side PSG.
However, the French outfit are yet to meet the £4m price-tag of the 29 year-old and will not be bringing the player in until they do so.
It became apparent that Alex’s Chelsea career was on its way to finishing after he handed in a transfer request in early December.
The centre-back was swiftly placed on the transfer list, alerting numerous clubs such as PSG, QPR and Santos.
Alex is thought to have preferred a move back to his native Brazil and to former side Santos but isn’t expected to get his wish as it’s unlikely that the South American side would be able to match his wages as well as his transfer fee.
The departure is made all the more assured by the January move of Gary Cahill from Bolton, who will undoubtedly take over more of a starting role at Stamford Bridge ahead of Euros 2012.
PSG’s relatively new Qatari ownership makes them heavy contenders in the transfer market and it unless they find a problem in the deal, they’ll be expected to match the £4m estimation in time for the close of the transfer window next week.
