Brendan Rodgers confirms Daniel Sturridge is back in training, but not “ready” yet

The Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed Daniel Sturridge is back in training but the star striker is not yet match fit and will not be ready for Aston Villa on Saturday.

Sturridge has not played for Liverpool since their 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in August, after injuring himself on international duty with England shortly after that in September when he pulled a thigh muscle.

The former Chelsea man, however, left many Liverpool fans purring today when images filtered through on Twitter of him training alongside his team-mates at Melwood, albeit alone with a Liverpool coach.

The former Manchester City striker has now been out of action for five months and his return is timely as the Reds look to carry on their recent good form.

Sturridge’s return was meant to be back in November, but he suffered a calf strain in training as he looked to get back to fitness.

The Englishman then suffered another setback when working his way back from the calf problem, as he suffered a recurrence of the thigh injury he suffered for England a few months earlier.

After rehabilitation in the USA over the festive period, the signs are Sturridge will soon be back in action.
