The Englishman is now back at Anfield, as gaffer Brendan Rodgers pencils the England star in for a return to the Liverpool starting line-up before the end of the month.
Liverpool’s injury-plagued star spent the holidays in the USA receiving treatment on a long-standing calf problem that has plagued him this season.
The Reds, who went so close to a first Premier League title last season, have suffered badly without Sturridge and after selling their goal machine Luis Suarez to Barcelona.
And Rodgers will be a much relieved man to get Sturridge back and said:
“He is back in the country to go into final stages of his rehab” said Rodgers. “The work he has done in America has been fantastic, specialising in the rehabilitation and he will now come back, hopefully in some part of January.
Rodgers said that Sturridge is a top class player with a wonderful idea of the game and wonderful qualities. His pace is frightening and his movement. As a footballer he is at a great age and if he can stay fit he can lead the charge for Liverpool.
He added that it is difficult to focus on a date for his return,we just need to assess all points and we have been monitoring his situation.
