Arsenal have finally been able to confirm the signing of Costa Rican striker Joel Campbell from Deportivo Saprissa. It was believed the deal had been completed a few weeks ago, however due to formal agreements and processes’ relating to the transfer, the deal has only been able to be confirmed today.
Campbell, 19, has just returned from international duty with the Costa Rica at the Under-20 World Cup in Columbia, where they crashed out in the group stages. The young forward has also made 6 appearances for the Costa Rica first team, scoring two goals.
It is believed that Campbell has signed a five-year deal with the Gunners after rejecting offers from both Sevilla and Fiorentina.
The Arsenal boss told Arsenal.com: “Joel is a young prospect, he has talent and can play right, left or centrally.”
“We took a gamble on him but, from what we have seen, it is worth taking.”
