City, no strangers to buying players for large sums, originally wanted £50m for their star striker and captain but it is believed now that they have accepted around £40m for the Argentine.
The deal, if it goes through, would ironically see Tevez become the most expensive signing in Brazilian Série A history, the same record that he broke in January 2005 when he joined Corinthians from Boca Juniors for £13.7m.
Corinthians will need to act fast though. The Brazilian transfer deadline is on Wednesday, leaving them little time to sign last season’s Premier League joint top scorer.
Manchester City, in the meantime, have identified Sergio Aguero as their replacement for the hard working Argentine. Aguero publicly stated that he desired a move away from Atletico Madrid and City are believed to be the forerunners in the race for the 23 year old’s signature.
