Bath prop Duncan Bell has had all charges concerning a claim of “eye contact” against the Sale forward Chris Jones dropped for which the 36 year old was cited at the beginning of February.
The Englishman, who has enjoyed spells with Sale Sharks, Pontypridd and has five international Caps to his name, was cleared on Monday in London by an RFU disciplinary panel who agreed that Bell’s actions were in his defence and that no contact was made anywhere near the eye but around the head guard.
A very delighted Duncan Bell had time to give a special thanks to those who had supported him during the case on his twitter page.
“A massive Belly thanks to everyone who supported me through this horrible situation. A heinous crime to be accused of. Glad it’s over.”
Although Bell was obviously innocent from the outset, one must see this as an example of RFU time and money wasted when a quick panel could have made exactly the same decision within 48 hours of the game being finished, perhaps sooner.
