Chelsea FC have taken a step closer to agreeing a move for Valencia winger Juan Mata in a move worth close to £28m all but ending Arsenal’s chances of bringing the Spaniard to the Emirates.
Valencia agreed to the larger bid after rejecting an initial bid of £23m for Mata early last week. The accepted bid now leaves the West London club the opportunity to discuss personal terms with the 23 year old which the club hopes will be tied up by Wednesday.
With Mata able to play in midfield too, it is believed that a completed move will mean the end of any interest in Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Luka Modric, however the club will still seek the services of Andre Villas Boas’ former midfielder João Moutinho as a more reasonable alternative.
Mata has been with Spanish side Valencia since 2007 and despite the side stating he is not for sale, they look to have finally succombed to Chelsea’s financially rewarding offer.
