Chelsea and Liverpool turn attentions back to impressive defender

Scott Dann remains a target for Liverpool and ChelseaChelsea and Liverpool look to be turning their attentions back to Birmingham City defender Scott Dann with Bolton Wanderers centre-back Gary Cahill seemingly on his way to the Emirates.

Dann, who is a known Liverpool supporter, had an impressive half season at the West Midlands club last year and could currently be available for as little as £6m.

Chelsea are uncertain regarding the future of Brazilian defender Alex who has been linked with Arsenal but with the more likely scenario that he will head to the Serie A with Juventus. Should Alex depart the Premiership side then Villas Boas will want immediate back up and consider Dann as a perfect replacement should injuries or suspensions take their toll on John Terry and David Luiz.

Liverpool are still looking to add a defender and have been linked with Dann for some time. There were recent reports that Liverpool would use striker David N’Gog as part exchange for Gary Cahill however Bolton manager Coyle wishes to keep the N’Gog and Cahill deals entirely separate.

With it likely that Arsenal will drum up the right amount of cash for Cahill, Liverpool to sell N’Gog to Bolton and Chelsea to loose Alex, it will be a straight fight between the Merseysiders and Villas Boas’s blues to snap up the impressive Scott Dann this summer.
