Chelsea are set to go head-to-head with Tottenham Hotspur in the battle to sign Internacional striker Oscar this summer.
Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo is chasing a new frontman to replace Didier Drogba and is said to have to have tabled a 25million euros (£19.8m) for the Brazil international who will represent his country at the Olympics next month.
Spurs were thought to be leading the chase for the 20-year-old after new manager Andre Villas-Boas made him a priority target but it appears that their London rivals have stolen a march in the race for his signature.
One of Oscar’s representatives Carlos Meinberg Neto confirmed the Champions League winners have submitted a formal offer but an agreement between the two clubs has yet to be reached.
“Chelsea did offer 25 million euros, but there is still no agreement between the clubs, that will probably happen within the next days,” Neto told Terraa.
“Tottenham also made an offer, but he should accept Chelsea’s offer as there is more exposure there”.
Should the deal go through it will be a welcome boost for Di Matteo after struggling to land a striker since taking the Chelsea reins full time last month.
The Italian has seen a disagreement over the final transfer fee but the brakes on a move for Porto frontman Hulk whilst interest in Fiorentina’s Steven Jovetic has cooled.
Fernando Torres remains the only senior striker at the club following the departures of Drogba and Salomon Kalou on free transfers in June and Di Matteo wants to sign at least one attacker before the Premier League season starts.
