It’s understood that Chelsea are in a tussle with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Porto’s attacking left-back, Alvaro Pereira, as a replacement for the departed Yuri Zhirkov.
Zhirkov joined Anzhi Makhachkala last week for £13m and new Chelsea manager, Andre Villas-Boas, is looking to replace the Russian international swiftly.
Pereira was one of Villas-Boas’ charges during his time at Porto and the Portuguese boss is looking to reunite with Uruguayan international star.
The 25 year-old can play as a left-back or on the left side of midfield, which is justified by his £25m buy-out clause.
The Europa League champions are thought to value the South American at around £15m, a fee which could rise depending on how far big spending rivals PSG are willing to fight.
