Chelsea boss plans to keep his starlet at the club

Andre Villas-Boas has stated his delight with the progress of Daniel Sturridge, and says he never planned to loan the forward out when he came to the club in the summer.

The former England Under-21 star was available for selection for the first time this season after serving a three-match suspension.

The Portuguese boss stated: “We had a lot of teams calling Daniel to take him on loan during the transfer window but it was never going to happen.”

The confidence in his forward was well placed after the 23 year-old scored a back-heeled goal against Sunderland in the Blues’ 2-1 win over the Black Cats.

Sturridge is also pleased with the chance he has been given, noting: “It’s been a bit frustrating because I’ve been suspended for the start of the season and I didn’t know if the manager was going to put me straight back in the team.”

He went on to add: “But I’m happy that he did, even though we’d won the last two games. The future hopefully is for me to continue playing games in the team, successfully with the team winning games.”
