Chelsea chasing Schurrle after Wigan halt Moses talks

Chelsea are to turn their attentions to Bayer Leverkusen winger Andre Schurrle after Wigan pulled the plug on talks with Victor Moses a Footy Bunker source revealed.

Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo is desperate to add another winger to his squad in the summer, despite signing Eden Hazard and Marko Marin, with Moses at the top of his shopping list.

Latics chairman Dave Whelan has warned them the Nigerian international isn’t for sale after rejecting a £4 million bid last week despite the player stating his desire to quit the DW Stadium before the new season starts.

Whelan believes the 21-year-old owes Wigan and claims his agent Tony Finnigan is the one trying to sell him – a claim he vehemently denies telling the Metro: “All I will say on this matter is that how did Victor Moses end up at Wigan, when he could have gone to Manchester City? Who took him to Wigan?”

The row has caused Chelsea to cool their interest in Moses and are now weighing up a £7 million bid for Germany international Schurrle after receiving a series of glowing reports from scouts tracking his progress at the European Championships.

However his impressive performances in Poland and Ukraine have caused Leverkusen to drive up his price and are now reportedly demanding £15m for the 21-year-old with AC Milan also rumoured to be interested.

Elsewhere Abramovich is still frantically trying to complete the deal to sign Porto striker Hulk after he issued a ‘come and get me’ plea last week.

“Chelsea are the current European champions and would please any player and I’m no exception,” he said. “I’d be happy if the transfer happened.

“I leave everything in the hands of Porto. I am under contract and I have been happy at Porto for four years, where I have achieved everything.”
