Chelsea defender completes Ligue 1 switch

After weeks of speculation, Alex has finally sealed his £4.2m switch to PSG after a disappointing 2011-12 campaign for Chelsea.

The Brazilian defender handed in a transfer request in December 2011 after finding first team appearances hard to come by and was quickly transfer listed by the club.

QPR were showing a strong interest in completing a cut-price deal for Alex but failed to agree personal terms with the centre-back and were swiftly ruled out of the race.

Chances of the 29 year-old being able to feature for the Blues again became even slimmer when the club brought in Gary Cahill on a £7m deal, making Alex’s departure all the more assured.

The move means that Alex will hook back up with former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti, who was controversially relieved of his duties at Stamford Bridge in 2011.

The Italian is understood to have enjoyed a good relationship with numerous members of the Chelsea playing staff and has also been linked with moves for former charges Florent Malouda and Salamon Kalou.

Alex has signed a two-year deal with the French outfit and will be glad to feature as part of a starting lineup once again.

The stern defender won an FA CUP as well as a Premier League title under Ancelotti while they were both at the Blues and both parties will be hoping to replicate similar success in Ligue 1.
