Chelsea defender never doubted strikers class

Ivanovic always believed Fernando Torres would come goodChelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has revealed he and his teammates never doubted Fernando Torres’ quality despite a slow start to his career at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard signed for the Blues from Liverpool for £50 million in January but struggled for goals and form after his move from Anfield with injuries and confidence hindering his undoubted talent.

However, under the guidance of new manager Andre Villas-Boas the 27-year-old is slowly getting back to his best bagging a double in Tuesday’s 5-0 Champions League win over Genk and making it four goals in as many games.

Ivanovic, who also got his name on the scoresheet, admitted the Chelsea squad never doubted Torres and it was only a matter of time before he rediscovered the form that made him one of the most feared strikers in Europe.

The Serbian said: “I always said there is no question about Fernando Torres because he is really great,”

“He showed every day his professionalism on the training ground, how he is working hard for the team.

“As a team, we expect more goals from him this season. Fernando showed his quality in his play. We are happy with that.”

Torres will serve the final match of a three game ban after his sending off against Swansea last month as Chelsea travel to QPR on Sunday.
