Sources in Spain are claiming that members of the “Chelsea negotiating team” are currently in Madrid but it is unclear whether they are there with a view to approaching Sergio Agüero of Atletico Madrid or Fernando Gago of Real Madrid.
Agüero has certainly opened the door for a move claiming this week that he wishes to leave Atletico this summer and with Chelsea having faced the striker in the past, they know full well what he is capable of – he scored past Chelsea twice in the Champions League group phase in 2009 – and they also realise that the 22 year old will not be allowed to move to near rivals Real.
Gago on the other hand has not been a favourite of Jose Mourinho’s and there were reports that Chelsea were looking at the 25 year old as a possible replacement for John Obi Mikel. The defensive midfielder has been at Real since 2007 making over 100 appearances and his experience in the Champions League may be vital to Chelsea’s plans.
The long shot regarding this would be Chelsea’s chiefs trying to prize away The Special One himself. As always at Real there has been arguments and disagreements and were an apology from Abramovich forthcoming then who knows what the future may hold.
