Chelsea FC will leave the door open to a Manchester United approach for Tottenham Hotspur’s Luka Modric after having lost patience with regards to the player opening up to a move.
The West London club had originally bid £22m for the midfielder but this was firmly rejected by Harry Redknapp’s side. The player himself though was quoted as saying he would like to join Chelsea but since those comments things have gone quiet leading the Blues board to believe the player is either under orders to remain quiet whilst under contract or that the player has had a change of heart.
The only avenue left for Chelsea is if Modric takes the ball into his own court and submits a transfer request, something that does not look to be forthcoming. The probable result will mean Chelsea making Palermo’s attack minded midfielder Javier Pastore their number one target. The club have already lodged a €50m bid with the Italian side and whilst Pastore is younger and has no experience at Premiership level as yet, his age, at only 22, is deemed to be a long term replacement for the fading Frank Lampard.
