Chelsea FC will make a decision this week as to which player they would like to bring in as cover for the injured Michael Essien and also hope to wrap up a deal for Palermo midfielder Javier Pastore.
Villas-Boas has earmarked either Cheik Tiote of Newcastle United of 30 year old England international Scott Parker. Whilst Parker is now 30 years old, his experience around the club is believed to be a tick in the right box and as the position is likely to only be as cover until Essien returns in six months, is considered a short term option.
A more expensive and long term option would be that of Tiote whom Newcastle United do not wish to sell but could be tempted if the West London club offer a big transfer fee.
It has been a quiet month for Chelsea this month so far however the club are going to start becoming more aggressive in the transfer market this week and will look to add to the likes of Thibaut Courtois who joined the club on Saturday.
