Chelsea FC manager Andre Villas Boas has blamed his side’s concentration levels in the second half for their result against Arsenal and also claims that the Stamford Bridge side did not put away their chances when needed.
Chelsea lost 5-3 at the Bridge on Saturday in a game that saw Arsenal close the gap on their London rivals to three points. It also represents Chelsea’s second loss on the bounce and the clubs third in ten matches.
The Chelsea manager though will not look to change tactics and insists that he will continue to approach the English game with an attacking philosophy.
Talking to the official Chelsea FC website, Villas Boas said:
“It is a route we take with pride, it is part of the British culture, it is not part of my culture, and it should be the pride of English football, and I think it is. So we shouldn’t turn things around. Everyone is praising a strong attacking team like Man City and we are exactly the same.”
The Chelsea manager continued:
“These results are happening and it reflects how chaotic the game is and how beautiful the game is. For the fans it is a good spectacle.”
However Villas Boas claims his side lacked efficiency and concentration on Saturday which lead to their downfall against the Emirates side.
“We just have to create the most amount of opportunities and try to score them. We had good opportunities to secure the result against Arsenal but couldn’t find the back of the net with the efficiency that we wanted, and then the start of the second half was not good enough in terms of concentration levels.”
The Chelsea manager added:
“Defeat is always a defeat and there is no pleasure in losing at home to one of your rivals, so we will have to evolve based on what we have done wrong and bounce back straight away.”
Chelsea next face an away tie in the Champions League against Genk but must then face the task of a tricky trip away to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday 5th.
