Chelsea FC’s star of the weekend Frank Lampard has voiced his pleasure at silencing the critics who believed the 33 year old no longer had it in him.
The England international fired in a hat-trick against Bolton Wanderers at the weekend to keep Chelsea in touch with league leaders Manchester United and second placed Manchester City by three points after both sides kept up their unbeaten streak in the Premier League.
His three goals came on top of his midweek goal in the Champions League against Valencia and Lampard feels that by scoring goals it is the best way to silence those who have criticised him.
“There’s only one way to answer the critics. Today was the day when it all came together for me and I’m pleased.”
The Chelsea midfielder also claimed that he was not happy sitting on the bench, explaining that he would rather earn his keep by playing whenever possible.
“It was one of the most special hat-tricks I have had after the time I’ve had. I’m hungry to play. I’m not a happy boy when I’m not playing. I want to earn my money. But I also have respect for the manager and players in the squad. I’ll always work hard to play for this club.”
Lampard’s form over the last few weeks have not gone unnoticed with England manager Fabio Capello calling the player up for England’s final European Championship qualifying match against Montenegro on Friday.
