Chelsea FC set to steal playmaker from under Liverpool and Arsenal’s noses

Annoyed at the lack of a transfer request by Tottenham Hotspur’s Luka Modric, Chelsea have now made a move for unwanted Wolfsburg playmaker Diego who has been under the radar of Liverpool and Arsenal recently as a low cost import.

Liverpool have apparently been favourites to land the little Brazilian but Chelsea’s position to offer the 26 year old Champions League football has seen them take a precedent in discussions. The Stamford Bridge side are still interested in Porto player Moutinho but they believe there could be an issue with the 24 year old Portugal international having such a high release clause in his contract.

This has led Chelsea onto Diego who will be available for much less than what Juventus originally paid Werder Bremen for him in 2009, some €24.5m. His on and off-field issues have been a concern whilst at Wolfsburg and a recent meeting with the Bundesliga clubs manager Felix Magath is likely to spell the end for Diego at the German club.

Diego also confirmed yesterday that talks between some English clubs were ongoing.
