Sources in West London have reported that Chelsea FC are going to “do what they can” to make Porto manager André Villas-Boas the successor to Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian was relieved f his duties shortly after Chelsea’s defeat to Everton on Sunday and our source has revealed that Villas-Boas is the number one target of owner Roman Abramovich.
The Russian has become frustrated at the lack of success in the Champions League and whilst Villas-Boas is yet to win the competition himself, many believe the 33 year old to be the next Jose Mourinho. Having won the league title in Portugal this season on top of a 1-0 victory in the UEFA Europa league, Villas-Boas is being tipped as the next big thing.
The Portuguese has stated that he wishes to stay in Porto and take the club into the Champions League next season however with football being what it is nothing is certain and Abramovich, on the advice from Gus Hiddink, is believed to be preparing a move that would put the 33 year old manager in the same wage bracket as current England manager Fabio Capello.
Should anything materialise from this and Chelsea fail yet again in their quest for the Champions League then maybe Hiddink’s next piece of advice will be to seek a new owner rather than manager.
