Chelsea are now willing to pay a whopping £42m for Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Luka Modric as the West London club begin to make this summers transfer window count.
The side had already had two bids rejected for the Croatian and Spurs manager Harry Redknapp even suggested that £35m would not be enough to prise their playmaker out of White Hart Lane. Taking that into consideration, the Chelsea board are now ready to play no limit and will increase first tabled offer by £20m.
The Stamford Bridge club are still smarting having lost out on Javier Pastore and whilst they would have liked to have had both join the club, they are prepared to pay big for a top quality creative midfielder and then focus on the width believed to be required.
Each player has their price and whilst the vast majority would not value Modric at £42m, it could be an offer too tempting for Tottenham Hotspur to turn down knowing they would then have the funds to purchase more than their fair share of suitable replacements.
