Chelsea FC’s first January signing will be a forward

Villas Boas looks to be wanting Vargas in this JanuaryChelsea FC are closing in on their first January transfer window signing and it appears the main target is Chile forward Eduardo Vargas.

The 22 year old has been of particular interest to Chelsea and Russian side CSKA Moscow however sources claim that a move to the West of London will be the most likely. The current Universidad forward is highly rated across Europe and despite joining the Chilean side only last year it looks as though it will be his last few weeks at the club before moving to London.

With Vargas currently having nine international caps to his name the 22 year old can feature as an out and out striker or on the right hand side, virtually operating as a winger. With Anelka on his way out in January and Villas Boas looking to add Gary Cahill as a defensive signing, Vargas would be a welcome signing for the blues who are still in need of something extra.

With Torres rumoured to be departing back to Spain, the move from Universidad would signal the start of Daniel Sturridge probably moving to a more central role with Vargas looking to take that right-forward spot.
