Chelsea forward Saloman Kalou has confirmed that he and the Stamford Bridge side are currently in talks regarding an extension on his current agreement but that he is seeking guarantees of first team football before putting pen to paper.
The 26 year old was once again started on the bench against Genk in their Champions League group game. Whilst Chelsea won the match 5-0, Kalou insisted he wants more minute on the pitch in able to improve himself, something he has not had the fortune of doing at the West London side this season so far.
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has however suggested that he wishes to keep the bulk of his squad and wants to re-negotiate deals for numerous players, Kalou included.
The Chelsea forward said of his current situation:
“That’s what every player wants to have, game time, because if you’re not playing every weekend, how are you going to improve yourself? So it’s very important to play to improve and to push yourself to the limit.”
“That’s what I’m looking for. We’re still talking and hopefully the club is putting itself in a good position and me myself as well. I think we’re going to agree on something good.”
Kalou also admitted his desire to remain with Chelsea and hopes that he can be part of the clubs future.
“I want to stay, I want to be here. I like Chelsea. I’ve had a fantastic five seasons here and won some prizes. Chelsea are looking forward to the future and I’m still a young player and I think my future can be here.”
