The Citizens were winners of the FA Cup back in 2011, but during recent years, no record matches Chelsea’s as they have lifted the trophy four times since 2007. Although they haven’t got the man that was usually the hero in these matches – Didier Drogba – the Blues do still have the players with the knowhow in these big encounters.
Chelsea made it through to the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday evening as well, so confidence in the camp should be high.
Rafael Benitez left Eden Hazard and Juan Mata on the bench in the game at Rubin Kazan and both are all but certain to come back into the starting eleven for this one. You can back Mata to score at 10/3.
In the FA Cup, the Blues have been impressive, especially the quarter-final replay against Manchester United as they took the game 1-0 thanks to a stunning goal from Demba Ba.
The Senegalese has been out of action for a week or so, but he is likely to be fit for this one and after Fernando Torres played on Thursday evening, Ba could come into the side. Both strikers are in decent form, which is a good selection headache for Benitez to have.
It has been a tough few weeks for Chelsea as they have been involved in Europa League, Premier League and FA Cup action, but they should relishing the chance to play at Wembley again this weekend and certainly have a chance of coming out on top.
As for Manchester City, the FA Cup is their only chance of silverware this season as they are still 12 points behind Manchester United, despite their win at Old Trafford on Monday evening.
However, that win would have given the Citizens a lot of confidence ahead of this trip to Wembley and if they put in a similar performance here, then Roberto Mancini’s men should be heading to the same ground for the final in a few weeks time. City are the 7/5 favourite to win this one.
Sergio Aguero was the match-winner in the Manchester derby as his superb solo effort put City 2-1 up and Mancini is likely to start his star striker here. Aguero has shown on a number of occasions that he loves to shine on the big stage and if he gets a chance on Sunday, he is sure to put the ball in the back of the net.
Aguero is at 9/5 to score at anytime here.
Although City fans won’t be delighted with the Premier League campaign, they will be pleased with how the team have played in the FA Cup and if they come out on top here, supporters are sure to be confident they can lift the trophy for the second time in three years.
It should be a superb match and it all gets underway from 4.00pm on Sunday.
