Chelsea not prepared to pay £18m for Bolton defender

Sources claim that Chelsea are definitely keen on Bolton Wanderers centre-back Gary Cahill but that the club are not willing to pay £18m for a player likely to be defined within Stamford Bridge as a squad player.

The Chelsea management are aware that captain John Terry may only have a year or two left at the highest level and would like Cahill to be his long term replacement but they are not prepared to pay Bolton’s valuation – at least not this summer. Should Bolton lower their asking price then Chelsea may consider making an offer although they could be prepared to offload Alex to raise the funds and perhaps make a vacancy next to Terry.

Players, Pepe of Real Madrid and Rolando of Porto are also being considered however they are more expensive than Cahill and the club is also looking to start cutting back on the wage bill.
