Chelsea offer midfield misfit as a makeweight in Modric deal

Andre Villas-Boas is ready to offer midfielder, Yossi Benayoun, to Tottenham in an effort to lure long-term target Luka Modric to Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea manager has seen two advances for Tottenham’s talisman rejected so far this summer, but is determined to get his man.

Benayoun hasn’t made a huge impression at the London club since arriving from Liverpool last year, with a string of heel injuries keeping the Israeli captain from consistent appearances.

Spurs manager, Harry Redknapp, is adamant to hold on to the Croatian midfielder for one more year, despite the maestro telling the club he wants to leave.

Redknapp may be tempted by the swap deal, with Benayoun boasting a similar playing style to Modric – if not on the same standard – and Benayoun will be looking for more regular football.

The offer Tottenham last rejected was worth £27m, a sum Chelsea will need to at least match, despite offering the 31 year-old Blues player as well.
