Chelsea are plotting a second bid for Bayer Leverkusen striker Andre Schurrle after seeing their initial £17 million offer rejected the Daily Mail reports.
The 21-year-old has moved to the top of manager Roberto Di Matteo’s transfer hit list as he continues to search for a striker capable of filling Dider Drogba’s shoes at Stamford Bridge.
Despite seeing their first bid rejected by the Bundesliga side who are determined to keep Schurrle but the Blues are preparing to up the ante by placing a £20m offer on the table.
The Germany international arrived at the BayArena last year from Mainz and has gone on to establish himself as one of Europe’s hottest attacking talents and further enhanced his reputation after two encouraging substitute outings for his country at Euro 2012 last month.
Chelsea have already pulled off two major coups this summer after landing Eden Hazard from Lille and look set to complete the £25 capture of Brazilian star Oscar from Internacional this week.
However they’ve been warned off making a move for Stevan Jovetic by Fiorentina who’ve slapped a £20m price tag on the Montenegrin front mans head after splendid campaign in Florence.
Di Matteo was hoping to bring the talented 22-year-old to West London after being impressed by his goalscoring form since recovering from a serious cruciate ligament injury that kept him out for a year.
Jovetic struck 14 goals in 27 matches last season for Viola who have now delivered a firm hands-off warning to the Champions League winners.
“Since the start of the season we have said that we are not selling Jovetic,” said Viola director Daniele Prade.
“There is an agreement with the player that if we get an offer above a certain figure, we will sit down and evaluate the offer, but we will only consider offers above £20 million.”
