Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is preparing a stunning January spending spree with Gary Cahill, Rafael Van Der Vaart and Brazilian midfielder Ganso all on his shopping list.
The Portuguese boss is desperate to the land the trio when the transfer window re-opens to boost an ailing squad that has failed to hit the heights of previous seasons.
Recent defeats at the hands of Arsenal and QPR have seen the Blues drop to fourth in the Premier League and an uninspiring 1-0 win at Blackburn on Saturday has done nothing to ease the concerns of the Stamford Bridge supporters.
Villas-Boas has now signalled his intent to overhaul the squad starting in the new year with improving the midfield and defender his main priority.
Bolton defender Cahill is his number one choice to partner captain John Terry at the back as David Luiz and Alex have failed to convince the 34-year-old that they are able to withstand the physical nature of English football.
With the England international’s contract expiring at the end of the season it’s likely Chelsea will be able to pick him up for around £8 million as opposed to the £15 million they were quoted in the summer.
They’ll have to pay much heftier fee’s to secure the services of Van Der Vaart and Ganso with both excelling at Tottenham and Santos respectively this campaign.
Villas-Boas is prepared to pay big to land both and pair them with Juan Mata in a devastating midfield trio that he hopes will proved the bullets for misfiring striker Fernando Torres.
However it’s unlikely that Spurs boss Harry Redknapp will let his Dutch playmaker leave White Hart Lane at such a crucial time in the season.
Ganso on the other hand could be open to a move to West London but the Blues will have to hold off competition from Manchester United and AC Milan.
