Chelsea along with Manchester United have been put on red alert after Bastian Schweinsteiger admitted that he’s no hurry to sign a new contract at Bayern Munich.
According to reports today, the 30-year-old’s reluctance to commit his future to the Bundesliga champions has raised the eyebrows of Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal, who are keen to add the experienced midfielder to their squads.
Whether Schweinsteiger fancies a chance to ply his trade in the Premier League remains to be seen, but speaking to media in Germany, the World Cup winner revealed that his future remains undecided for the time being.
“I am in no hurry to renew. It’s not something that bothers me because I have a year before it expires. The important thing is that my physical problems and injuries are resolved. The rest will follow.” said Schweinsteiger.
The midfielder is yet to sign a new deal with Bayern Munich and will become a free agent as of 2016.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are also planning to sell Andre Schurrle and will replace him with Borussia Dortmund winger Marco Reus. Wolfsburg are keen on Schurrle and could splash out £23m to sign him.
That could lead to a potential player swap involving Reus. Jose Mourinho has made the £20m-rated player his No 1 target this summer. But a host of other clubs are also keeping tabs on Reus including Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
