Chelsea remain interested in Real Madrid maestro

After reports suggested that the player is unhappy with his salary at the Santiago Bernabeu, the summer transfer of Angel Di Maria is gaining momentum with Chelsea maintaining their interest in the star.

The 24 year-old moved to Real Madrid in 2010 but has constantly been linked with other clubs, despite the fact that his contract is set to run until 2016.

In his two seasons with the Spanish giants, Di Maria has made over 70 appearances, netting on 15 occasions.

The Argentine is also a steady provider of goals, recording 14 assists in this season alone and although Jose Mourinho won’t be ken to let go of his winger, he may have little choice should a club meet his £22m valuation.

Chelsea finally wrapped up the long-protracted purchase of Kevin de Bruyne in January, but the Belgian isn’t expected to make his break into the Blues first team for another season or so.

Florent Malouda and Salomon Kalou are both expected to be heading for the Stamford Bridge exit at the end of this season and although the club won’t make anything from their free transfers, their evacuation will mean space freeing up on the Chelsea wings.

Daniel Sturridge is another name being associated with a move away from Chelsea, and although much less likely to leave, could still make way for a Di Maria buy.

Both Real Madrid and Chelsea are uncertain over who will be their manager at the start of next season but if Jose Mourinho should take the reins at the Bridge once more as many are predicting, it would make Di Maria’s move to the Premier League a lot more likely.
