Chelsea Set to Miss Out on Playmaker

Harry Redknapp believes that Luka Modric will still be a Tottenham player after the transfer window and could feature in Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Manchester City.

Chelsea have been tracking the player all summer, and have had two bids rejected by Spurs for the Croatia international. Modric has confirmed he is interested in a move to Stamford Bridge and it is reported that Chelsea will make a final offer of £40million. Despite Modric’s desire to leave, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is adamant that he is not for sale and it is thought that they have held further talks about the situation on Thursday.

The 25-year-old missed out on the 3-0 defeat to Manchester United on Monday after Redknapp revealed that the players head was not right and missed out in both legs of Spurs’ Europa League play-offs due to minor hamstring injuries.
The Spurs boss is convinced Modric will be playing this weekend against City and is almost certain the player will not be moving.

“He’ll be playing on Sunday for sure,” said Redknapp.
“I think there was a meeting. Daniel just said the same thing, he’s not for sale.”
“It’s been difficult for him but we want him to stay and he will stay. He should be fit for Sunday.”

“He could have kicked up and been a problem and if he had done it would have been difficult to keep him.”
“If players want to be destructive they can be but he’s not got that in his nature.”
“He’ll stay and play and will be great as he has been every other year.”
