Chelsea set to respond with increased Modric bid

Reports are suggesting that Chelsea are ready to up the ante for Tottenham star, Luka Modric, and increase their offer for the Croatian midfielder to £30m.

New Blues manager, Andre Villas-Boas, has already had two bids of £22m and £27m turned down this summer, but is ready for the fight to get his man.

The new offer is reportedly worth either £30m cash, or a swap deal which would consist of £27m cash and Yossi Benayoun moving in the opposite direction.

Benayoun has seen a limited amount of first team football since his move last year, held back by numerous injuries; however the Israel captain is apparently open to a move to White Hart Lane.

Modric has openly stated his desire to make the move to Stamford Bridge, and it’s understood that manager, Harry Redkanpp, may be opening up to the idea of the transfer.
